Portofino

I wanted to go to Portofino for quite some time. The first time I heard about this place was at the dentist. I saw photos of the Belmond Splendido Hotel and the bay of Portofino in one of those catalogues that make you feel really adventurous and distract you from the pleasure of someone digging around in your mouth.

And just like that, I put Portofino on this years "Italy traveling list". We were in Italy for two weeks and this was basically the only cloudy day. It was only 25 degrees warm but that didn't make Portofino less beautiful. The whole bay reminded me of a dreamy painting of a small Italian city on the seaside.

Portofino

Portofino is extremely touristic. While we were there, there were mostly Germans and Americans. It got really crowded in the afternoon.

There's nothing cheap about Portofino, which is why we decided not to spend the night. In the port there were multiple yachts that looked pretty luxurious. Next to it there were little fishing boats which made the whole scene very idyllic. We had lunch in one of the cafés near the water and on the table next to us were two Americans who were surrounded by the staff of a yacht and obviously owned one.

The view from Castello (Castle) Brown is amazing. Even though the weather was anything but perfect the whole bay looked magical.

There's a little art gallery inside the castle which is really worth a look. The terrace is beyond amazing and has a little balcony that makes it super simple to take gorgeous pictures of Portofino. You have to pay 5€ to visit the castle and before that you have to climb a lot of stairs buy it's worth it. I promise.
